St. Joseph, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Softball team split a pair of MIAA conference games at Missouri Western on Saturday afternoon. SBU improves to 24-10 (8-4 MIAA) on the season.
In game one The Bearcats would jump on the scoreboard first as they would score two runs in the top of the 2nd inning.
Stormy Christerson would lead off the inning with a single, and then
Lauren Strobel would hit a 2-run homer to left to give SBU the early 2-0 lead.
Kacey Ayers-Evans would make quick work of the Griffons over the next two innings and SBU would take their 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 4th inning. MWSU would get a run back in the 4th inning and would trail SBU 2-1 going into the 5th inning. Both teams would come up empty in the 5th and 6th innings and SBU would lead 2-1 heading into the final inning. Ayers-Evans would retire the side in the 7th to lead SBU to the 2-1 victory. With the win Ayers-Evans improves to 13-5 on the season.
In game two MWSU would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on a 2-out base hit. Christerson would open the 2nd inning with a base hit, but the Bearcats would be unable to score a run in the inning.
Claire Miller would settle in after the 1st inning, and would only allow three more base runners for the rest of the game. The Bearcats would get runners on base in the 3rd, 5th, and 7th innings, however SBU would fall in the game 1-0.
The Bearcats will be back in action Tuesday, April 4th when the travel to Joplin, Mo. to take on Missouri Southern in a MIAA doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 2 PM from Joplin, Mo.
