Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday afternoon against Missouri S&T. With the wins SBU improves to 13-5 on the season.
In game one
Kacey Ayers-Evans would retire the first nine batters she faced, and the game would be tied going into the 4th inning. In the top of the 4th inning Missouri S&T would get on the board with a 2-out single to take a 1-0 lead. The game would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when SBU would respond with 2 runs. Jaidyn Mawhinney would start the inning with a single to shortstop and
Megan Schellert would single through the right side.
Dana Graves would load the bases with a bunt single to the third baseman before
Stormy Christerson would single to right scoring Mawhinney and Schellert. Ayers-Evans would retire the Miners in order in the 7th to finish the game. On the day Ayers-Evans collected 9 strikeouts while only allowing 3 hits. With the win she improves to 8-3 on the season.Â
In game two Missouri S&T would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, however SBU would respond in the bottom half of the inning. After a Schellert walk,
Dana Graves would hit a 2-run homer to left field and SBU would take a 2-1 lead.
Claire Miller would settle in after the 1st inning and would hold the Miners scoreless through the next 4 innings. In the bottom of the 5th Mawhinney and Schellert would both single, and Christerson would bring home Mawhinney with an RBI single to left field. Miller would shut down Missouri S&T over the final 2 innings to pick up her 3rd win of the season. Miller would finish the game with 8 strikeouts.Â
On the day the Bearcats were led offensively by
Stormy Christerson who went 5-6 with 3 RBI. In the circle both
Kacey Ayers-Evans and
Claire Miller went the distance and struck out a combined 17 batters.Â
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, March 11 as they travel to Central Missouri for a doubleheader to open MIAA play. First pitch for game one is set for 1 PM from Warrensburg, Mo.
