St. Joseph, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in a tough 6-5 contest on Sunday afternoon to Missouri Western. With the loss SBU drops to 9-6 (1-5 MIAA) on the season.
Missouri Western jumped out a quick 4-0 lead after two innings of play before the Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the top of the third. With one out in the inning
Hunter Hisky tripled down the right field line, and was brought home one batter later on an rbi single up the middle by
Jovany Urbieta.
Sean Murley then singled to left before an rbi single up the middle from
Nelson Muniz brought SBU within two at 4-2.
The Griffons answered back in the bottom of the third with another run, as SBU trailed 5-2 before the Bearcats came back to tie the game in the sixth.
Andrew Meier led the inning off by getting hit by a pitch, followed by a
Clint Jack walk and a
Cody Massey rbi single through the left side started the scoring. Sneed loaded the bases after reaching on a sacrifice bunt where Hisky then singled home two runners to tie the game at 5-5. However, the Griffons would tack on another run in the 8th as SBU fell 6-5 in the contest.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, March 7 when they travel to Drury. Opening pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. from Ozark, Missouri.
