Maryville, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University softball team split a pair of games against Northwest Missouri on Friday afternoon. Following the series with NWMSU SBU improves to 23-9 (7-3 MIAA) on the season.
 
In game one Northwest Missouri would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. NWMSU would add three runs in the 3rd inning and would take a 4-0 lead into the 4th inning.  Stormy Christerson would open up the 4th inning with a single, and Darien Robinson would draw a one out walk to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Kori Hillenburg would get an infield hit and the bases would be loaded with two outs, but SBU would fail to score a run. Northwest Missouri would go on to win the game 8-0.
 
In game two both teams would fail to score over the 1st three innings of play, however SBU would break out on top in the 4th inning. Dana Graves would start the inning with a walk; Christerson would follow with a base hit putting runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out. Yezzania Gonzalez would pinch run for Graves and would come in to score on a 2-out RBI base hit from Alexis Dock. SBU would take a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 4th inning, and Claire Miller would shut down Northwest Missouri in the 4th and SBU would take their 1-0 lead into the 5th inning. Both teams would go quietly in the next two innings and SBU would cling to a 1-0 lead going into the 7th inning, SBU would get a runner on but would fail to score in the top half of the inning. Miller would retire NWMSU in order to seal the win for SBU. On the day Miller would finish with 8 strikeouts and pick up her 8th win of the season.  
 
SBU will return to action on Saturday, April 1st when they travel to St. Joseph to take on the Missouri Western Griffons. First pitch is set for 12 PM from St. Joseph, Mo.
