Miller Tosses 2nd Career Shutout; Bearcats Sweep FHSU

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Softball team extended their winning streak to 5 games with doubleheader sweep of Fort Hays State. With the wins SBU improves to 21-7 (5-1 MIAA) on the season.

In game one FHSU would take a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning on a 2-RBI base hit, however SBU would respond in the bottom half of the inning. Dana Graves and Stormy Christerson would start the inning with back to back singles, Darien Robinson would double driving in Graves and cutting the FHSU lead to 2-1, and Alexis Dock would tie the game with a sacrifice fly to left field. After a quick top of the 3rd inning SBU would once again get on the scoreboard. Jaidyn Mawhinney would open the inning with a single, and after a fielder's choice and a Catlin Evans stolen base SBU would have a runner in scoring position with 2-outs. Graves would single to right field and SBU would take a 3-2 lead. The Bearcats would get on the scoreboard once again in the 4th inning. Robinson would walk and Dock would single giving SBU runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Kori Hillenburg would single and increase the SBU lead to 4-2 before Mawhinney would single in Dock and SBU would have a 5-2 lead. Megan Schellert would single and FHSU would throw the ball down the right filed line which would allow two more SBU runs to cross the plate. A wild pitch and another Hays error would allow SBU to score two more runs and the Bearcats would take a 9-2 lead into the 5th inning. FHSU would pick up four runs in the top of the 6th inning and would cut the SBU lead to 9-6. Kacey Ayers-Evans would retire the side in the 7th and that would seal her 12th with of the season and would finish the game with 8 strikeouts. 

In game two Mawhinney would walk to lead off the bottom of the 1st inning, and would advance to 3rd after a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt from Catlin Evans. Megan Schellert would drive Mawhinney in with an RBI fielder's choice, SBU would lead 1-0 after an inning of play. Claire Miller would breeze through the next three innings where she would strike out four Tiger batters. In the bottom of the 4th Graves would double and would score on a single from Christerson increasing the SBU lead to 2-0. Lauren Strobel would pick up an RBI with a base hit and SBU would take a 3-0 lead into the 5th inning. Both teams would fail to score until the bottom of the 6th inning, Graves would lead off the inning with a base hit. Christerson would follow with a base hit, and Strobel would move both runners up with a sacrifice bunt. Robinson would crush a homerun to left center field to make the score 6-0 in favor of SBU. Miller would shut the Tigers down in the 7th inning which would complete her second straight shutout for the Bearcats. Miller would finish the game allowing only 3 hits and striking out 7. 

The Bearcats were led offensively by Dana Graves who had four hits on the day, while Jaidyn Mawhinney and Stormy Christerson each had 3. Darien Robinson would collect 4 RBI's to pace SBU. In the circle Kacey Ayers-Evans threw a complete game picking up 8 strikeouts Claire Miller tossed her1st complete game shutout while collecting 7 strikeouts. 

SBU will return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 28th when they travel to Pittsburg State to take on the Gorillas in an MIAA doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 3 PM from Pittsburg, Kansas.
