Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team picked up a big doubleheader sweep over Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon, winning game one 13-9 and game two 5-4. With the two wins, the Bearcats improve to 17-8 (7-7 MIAA) on the season.
In game one the Bearcats struck first in the bottom of the first. With one out
Chance Wolfe singled up the middle, followed by an rbi double from
Hunter Hisky to give SBU a 1-0 lead.
Sean Murley then singled to right field, followed by an rbi groundout from
Nelson Muniz to put the Bearcats up 2-0 after one. In the second
Brian Womack sent the Lions down in order before SBU added to their lead. With one out,
Clint Jack singled through the left side, stole second, and came home on an rbi double from
Cody Massey.
Caleb Sneed drew a walk, followed by a single from Wolfe to load the bases. Hisky then drew a bases loaded walk followed by a two-rbi single from Murley to extend the SBU lead to 6-0.
Lindenwood would respond with four runs in the top of the third, but an rbi single from Sneed gave SBU a 7-4 lead after three. After a scoreless fourth, the Bearcats again added runs in the fifth.
Jovany Urbieta led the inning off with a single to left field, followed by a sacrifice and a walk to put runners on first and second. After a Lindenwood pitching change, Massey doubled to right field to score Urbieta. Two batters later Wolfe singled to left field, scoring two, and would eventually come home on an rbi single from Hisky giving the Bearcats an 11-4 lead. LWU added runs in the sixth and seventh before the Bearcats tacked on two more in the bottom of the seventh. Wolfe drew a walk, followed two batters later with an in-the-park homerun from Murley to extend the lead to 13-6. Lindenwood would tack on three more runs, but in the end the Bearcats would take game one 12-9.
In game two the Bearcats and Lions were scoreless through the first two innings before SBU broke the tie in the bottom of the third. Sneed led the inning off with a single through the left side, and came home on a two out rbi double from Murley to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Lindenwood would come back to tie the game in the fifth at 1-1, but SBU used two solo homeruns from Hisky and Urbieta to re-take lead at 3-1. The Lions would plate three runs in the top of the eighth, taking a 4-3 lead, setting up a walk-off opportunity for the Bearcats. In the bottom of the ninth
Clint Jack led the inning off with a single to right field, followed two batters later with a walk from
Blake Hobbs to put two on with one out. Sneed singled to left field, but a Bearcat runner was thrown out at the plate to put runners on second and third with two outs in the inning. However, Wolfe came back with a single right center, tying the game at 4-4, before a walk-off single from Hisky gave SBU the 5-4 victory.
In game one
Brian Womack picked up the victory, while
Chance Wolfe earned the victory out of bullpen in game two.
Sean Murley went 5-7 with five rbi, while
Hunter Hisky picked up four hits and knocked in five runners.
Caleb Sneed and
Chance Wolfe also both picked up four hits on the day.
The Bearcats will return to action on Monday, March 27 when they host Lindenwood in the final game of the series. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
