Bearcats Hit 3 Homeruns in 10-3 Victory at Northeastern State

Tahlequah, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team used three homeruns and a seven run fifth inning to propel them to a 10-3 victory against Northeastern State on Friday afternoon. With the win the Bearcats improve to 14-6 (5-5 MIAA) on the season.

After a scoreless first inning Sean Murley blasted a solo homerun to left center to get the Bearcats on the board. Nelson Muniz then drew a walk, stole second, advanced to third on an error, and eventually stole home to give SBU a 2-0 lead. NSU responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning before the Bearcats opened the game up with a seven run fifth.

With one out in the top of the fifth the Bearcats received back-to-back-to-back singles from Cody Massey, Caleb Sneed, and Chance Wolfe to load the bases. Hunter Hisky then hit a two-rbi double to center field, followed by an rbi ground out to second to extend the SBU lead to 5-1. Murley was then hit by a pitch, followed by an rbi double to left field from Muniz. Andrew Meier then capped off the seven run inning with a three-run homerun to left center as the Bearcats took a commanding 9-1 lead. NSU tacked on a run in the fifth and in the seventh, but a solo homerun from Clint Jack in the top of the eighth capped off the scoring for both teams as SBU cruised to a 10-3 victory. 

On the mound Brian Womack threw 5.0 innings allowing a pair of runs with 3 strikeouts to pick up the victory. Cody Massey led the Bearcats with three hits, going 3-4, while Andrew Meier went 2-5 with 3 rbi and Hunter Hisky went 2-5 with 2 rbi.

SBU will return to action on Saturday, March 18 when they continue their three-game series at Northeastern State. Opening pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. from Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
