Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist earned the #10 seed and will travel to #7 Washburn on Tuesday in the opening round of the MIAA Postseason Tournament.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach
Kelsey Keizer is in her third season on the Bearcat bench after leading SBU to their first winning season in 9 years (16-13, 11-11 MIAA) last season. The 11 MIAA wins also marks the second most conference wins in program history. Coach Keizer holds a career coaching record of 27-31, including a 15-26 mark in the MIAA.
Ron McHenry begins his 17th season as the head coach at Washburn. McHenry holds a career coaching record of 389-108 including a 226-76 record in MIAA play.
Washburn leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 38-14. The two teams split the regular season meetings with Washburn winning in Bolivar 62-59 and Southwest Baptist winning in Topeka 69-65. Tuesday's game marks the eighth meeting between the two schools in the MIAA Tournament, with Washburn holding a 5-2 advantage (SBU 85-73 in '13-'14; WU 78-53 in '06-07; WU 80-64 in '04-'05; WU 65-62 in '01-02; SBU 79-72 in '95-'96; WU 66-47 in '92-'93; WU 68-53 in '91-'92).
Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats enter the MIAA Postseason Tournament 15-13 (7-12 MIAA) and are coming off of a 93-76 loss to Nebraska-Kearney. SBU is led in scoring by
Megan Rosenbohm who is averaging 16.7 ppg while
Caylee Richardson averages 11.6 ppg, and a team high 7.1 rpg.
Alex Botkin dishes out a team high 2.9 apg, while
Aliyah Isaac averages 8.5 ppg and
Mackenzie Skupa averages 8.0 ppg. As a team SBU shoots 45.1% from the field, 31.4% from beyond the arc, 75% from the line, and average 71.5 ppg.
Scouting the Ichabods
Washburn enters the game against Southwest Baptist 17-11 (10-9 MIAA) on the season, and are coming off of a 81-69 victory to over Northeastern State. Washburn is led in scoring and rebounding by Alyxis Bowens who averages 12.7 ppg and 7.1 rpg. Jharian Bowen averages 11.4 ppg, Reagan Phelan 11.1 ppg , and Erika Lane 11.0 ppg. As a team Washburn shoots 43.6% from the field, 32.8% from beyond the arc, 72.2% from the line and average 67.8 ppg.
