Box Score Bolivar, Mo. – The Southwest University Baseball team defeated Missouri-St. Louis 16-10. With the win SBU improves to 9-3 (1-2 MIAA) on the season.
UMSL would get two runs in the top of the 1
st inning, but SBU would respond in the bottom half of the inning.
Chance Wolfe would get things started by hitting a solo home run to left.
Andrew Meier would triple and then
Jovany Urbieta would hit a 2-run home run and SBU would go on top 3-2.
Sean Murley and
Hunter Hisky would both reach base and then
Nelson Muniz would double to bring both runners in and SBU would increase their lead to 5-2. UMSL would score three more runs in the 2
nd inning and SBU tie the game at 5. In the bottom of the 2
nd Wolfe and Meier would both get on base again and Urbieta would bring them both in with his 2
nd home run of the game. The home run would extend SBU's lead to 8-5.
Neither team would score until the 4
th inning when UMSL would add a run and cut the SBU lead to 8-6. The Meier and Urbieta connection would once again come up big for the Bearcats in the bottom of the 4
th inning. After Meier doubled Urbieta would drive him in for his 6
th RBI of the game and SBU would extend their lead to 9-6. In the bottom of the 5
th inning
Clint Jack would start the inning with a single and
Caleb Sneed would follow with a walk. Wolfe would drive in Jack with an RBI base hit. Meier would reach on an UMSL error which would allow Sneed to score and SBU would lead 11-6. SBU would add a run on a wild pitch and would head to the 6
th inning leading 12-6.
Muniz would hit a home run to start the 6
th inning for the Bearcats and would extend their lead to 13-6. In the bottom of the 7
th inning SBU would add to their lead as Meier and Urbieta would get on base, and
Sean Murley would bring them home with a 3-run home run. The homer would give SBU a 16-6 lead. UMSL would add 4 runs in the top of the 8
th to make the score 16-10 SBU. SBU would hold UMSL scoreless in the 9
th and would win the game 16-10.
Calvin Lovig would toss 3.1 innings in relief to pick up the victory. With the victory Lovig improves to 2-0 on the season.
SBU will be back in action of Friday, March 3
rd as they travel to Missouri Western to take on the Griffons. First pitch is set for 2 PM from St. Joseph, Mo.
