SBU Baseball Wins Series Finale Against Central Oklahoma 5-4

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team claimed the series finale over Central Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon 5-4. With the win the Bearcats improve to 8-3 (1-2 MIAA) on the season.

A pitchers dual from the beginning, the two teams were tied 0-0 heading into the fourth inning of action. Central Oklahoma were the first to strike in the game, plating three runs in the top of the fourth to take the early 3-0 advantage. After a scoreless fifth, the Bearcats were able to capitalize on a pair of UCO errors in the bottom of the sixth to push across one run as they trailed 3-1 heading into the seventh. The Bronchos added another run in the eighth as the Bearcats went into the bottom of the ninth trailing 4-1.

Clint Jack led the inning off with a walk, and after a strikeout, Caleb Sneed also reached on a walk. Chance Wolfe the singled to load the bases where Blake Hobbs hit an RBI fielder's choice to cut the Broncho lead to 4-2. On the fielder's choice, a UCO error kept the bases loaded where Jovany Urbieta singled home two runners to tie the game at 4-4. After another out, Hunter Hisky drew a walk to load the bases before Hobbs eventually came home on a walk-off wild pitch to give the Bearcats the 5-4 victory.

SBU will step out of MIAA on Tuesday, February 28th when they host Missouri-St. Louis in a single 9-inning game. Opening pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
