Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell to Central Oklahoma on Friday afternoon in their MIAA opener 15-9. With the loss SBU drops to 7-2 (0-1 MIAA) on the season.
Central Oklahoma jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a half inning of play, but the Bearcats answered right back in the bottom half of the inning.
Caleb Sneed led the inning off with a single through the right side, followed by a
Chance Wolfe single to right field, and a hit batter to load the bases.
Sean Murley then hit a grandslam to right field to give SBU their first lead of the game at 4-3.
Nelson Muniz then drew a full count walk, followed two batters later by a two-run homerun from
Jovany Urbieta to give SBU the 6-3 lead.
UCO would respond with two runs in the second, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth as the Bearcats trailed 9-6 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.
Clint Jack and Murley led the inning off with back-to-back walks, before Muniz knocked them both home with a two-rbi triple down the right field line to pull SBU within one at 9-8. Two batters later Urbieta would tie the game at 9-9 with a sacrifice fly to right field. However, the Bronchos would tack on six runs in the following half inning as the Bearcats would end up falling 15-9.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, February 25 when they host Central Oklahoma in the second game of the three-game series. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
