SBU Picks up Two Victories Over Newman

Wichita, Ks. – The Southwest Baptist University Softball team swept Newman University in a doubleheader on Thursday and are now 11-3 on the season.
 In game one Newman would get on the board in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. In the 3rd inning Kori Hillenburg would reach on a Newman error, Dana Graves would get a 2-out hit to bring Hillenburg in and tie the game at one. Stormy Christerson and Alexis Dock would start the 4th inning with back-to-back singles and would advance to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch. Kori Hillenburg would come up with a big 2-RBI single to give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead. Newman would battle back in the bottom of the 6th and tie the game at 3. The game would go into extra innings and in the top of the 8th inning Christerson would get an RBI single to give SBU a 4-3 lead. Kacey Ayers-Evans would retire Newman in order in the 8th to seal the victory. With the win Ayers-Evans improves to 7-1 on the season.

In game two Claire Miller would dominate in the circle for the Bearcats she would throw a complete game shutout with 8 strikeouts. Both teams would be held without a run until the top of the 6th inning when SBU would strike for the only run of the game. Catlin Evans would get a single up the middle and would come around to score on an RBI double from Megan Schellert. Miller would only allow one more base runner over the final two innings. With the win Miller improves to 2-1 on the season.

The Bearcats will be back in action Wednesday, March 1 as they travel to Claremore, Okla. to take on Rogers State in a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 1 PM.
