SBU Sweeps Drury in Doubleheader

Bolivar, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University Softball team picked up two victories over Drury on Wednesday afternoon and improved their record to 9-3 on the season.

In game one Drury would threaten in the 1st inning getting runners to 2nd and 3rd, but Kacey Ayers-Evans would strand the runners with a strikeout. After a two out walk to Lauren Strobel in the bottom of the 1st inning, Dana Graves hit an RBI double to right field giving SBU a 1-0 lead. The 1-0 lead would be all SBU needed as Ayers-Evans would shine in the circle for the Bearcats. Drury would get the bases loaded in the 4th inning but Ayers-Evans would strand the bases loaded with a strikeout. Ayers-Evans would only allow one more base runner over the final three innings, and would finish the game with 8 strikeouts to improve her record to 6-1 on the season.

In game two Drury would strike first as they scored a run in the top of the first inning. Following the first inning Hunter Middleton would settle in and throw three more scoreless innings and Drury would have a 1-0 lead headed to the bottom of the 4th. In the bottom of the 4th SBU's bats would come alive. The Bearcats would send 14 hitters to the plate in the inning. The inning began with a Catlin Evans walk and a Megan Schellert base hit. After a Schellert stolen base, Alexis Dock would single up the middle tying the game at 1. An infield single from Kaley Hansen loaded the bases where Kori Hillenburg would smack a base hit to right field which would score Dock and Schellert and SBU would take a 3-1 lead. Jaydin Mawhinney would reach on a fielder's choice and Hillenburg and Mawhinney would advance to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch. Strobel would add to the lead with a 2-RBI single up the middle extending SBU's lead to 5-1. The Bearcats would load the bases and Dock would capitalize with a 2-RBI single to center field. Stormy Christerson would get an RBI base hit and SBU would lead 9-1. After a quick top of the 5th inning SBU would get the victory by run rule. Middleton would get the win and improve to 2-1 on the season.

SBU will return to action Thursday, February 23 when they travel to Newman University for a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM from Wichita, Kan.
