Bentonville, Ark. – The Southwest Baptist University Softball split a pair of games on Sunday, defeating Wayne State 2-1 and falling to Illinois-Springfield 1-0. SBU is now 7-3 on the season.
In game one
Kacey Ayers-Evans would throw a complete game and would only allow five hits. In the bottom of the 2nd inning
Stormy Christerson would get a one out walk, and a Wayne State error would allow
Kaley Hansen to reach. Christerson would come around to score on a double from
Kori Hillenburg giving SBU a 1-0 lead.
Jaidyn Mawhinney would add an RBI on a groundout that would score Hansen and SBU would have a 2-0 lead after two innings. Wayne State would get their only run of the game in the 3rd off of a solo homerun. Ayers-Evans would shut down the Wildcats over the final four innings and secure a 2-1 SBU victory. With the victory Ayers-Evans improves her record to 5-1.
In game two
Hunter Middleton would pitch four solid innings not allowing any runs, and only allowed two hits from Illinois-Springfield. In the bottom of the 5th SBU would get the bases loaded but would not be able to push any runs across, but in the top of the 7th inning UIS would get an unearned run and would take a 1-0 lead which proved to be the final score of the game.
Claire Miller would pitch three innings in relief for the Bearcats and only allowed one hit. Miller would take the loss dropping her record to 1-1 on the season.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday, February 22 as they host Drury in a doubleheader. The first pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar, Mo.
