Caleb Sneed hit a walk-off homerun to propel the Bearcats to an 11-10 victory over Maryville before falling in the second contest 16-2 on Saturday afternoon. At the conclusion of the day the Bearcats improve to 5-1 on the season.
In the opening game the two teams were scoreless through the first three innings of play. Maryville broke the scoreless game in the top of the fourth, but the Bearcats responded in the bottom half of the inning.
Nelson Muniz led the inning off with a single up the middle, and after a MU error,
Blake Hobbs singled to right field to load the bases.
Andrew Meier drew a bases loaded walk to cut plate SBU's first run of the game, and the Bearcats would tie the game at 2 after a balk by Maryville.
Chance Wolfe would hit a two-rbi single to right field to put the Bearcats up 4-2 after four innings of play.
Maryville answered right back in the top of the fifth with two runs, once again tying the game at 4-4. However, the Bearcats went to work scoring six runs over the next two innings. In the bottom of the fifth Hobbs hit an rbi single to center field, giving SBU a 5-4 lead. After a scoreless half inning for Maryville, SBU opened the game up with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs in the inning
Clint Jack started things off with a single to third before
Sean Murley was hit by a pitch and Muniz drew a walk to load the bases.
Hunter Hisky then cleared the bases with a double, extending the Bearcat lead to 8-4. After Hobbs drew a walk, a double-steal by Hobbs and Hisky put runners on second and third. Meier then doubled home both base runners to give SBU a 10-4 lead. Maryville responded in the top of the seventh with six runs to tie the game, but a walk-off homerun by
Caleb Sneed propeled the Bearcats to an 11-10 victory.
In game two Urbieta and Murley picked up RBI's, but in the end the Bearcats would fall 16-2.
SBU will be back in action on Sunday, February 19 when they host Maryville in the final contest of the four-game series. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
