Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team returns home to open up the home portion of their 2017 season when they host Maryville. The 4-game series is set to begin on Friday, February 17 and conclude on Sunday, February 19.
Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats are coming off of a three-game sweep at Southern Nazarene, where collectively they hit .400 as a team while scoring 47 runs during the weekend. Offensively SBU is led by
Hunter Hisky who is hitting a team high .643 on the season with 3 doubles and 8 rbi which are also both team highs.
Clint Jack is hitting .538 on the year with a team high 9 runs scored, while
Blake Hobbs has hit a team high 2 homeruns to go along with a .400 batting average. On the mound
Jay Kaufman threw 6.1 innings of relief against SNU to pick up his first victory of the season. Kaufman also struck out 7 batters in the game.
Scouting the Saints
Maryville comes into the series against Southwest Baptist 1-2 on the season after dropping two out of three against Union. As a team the Saints are hitting .357, while supporting a team ERA of 5.92. Offensively Tyler Catlett leads the team with a .462 average, while Daniel Covert leads the team in extra base hits (4), homeruns (2), and rbi (7), as well as boasting a .429 average. Five different relievers have combined for 8.0 innings of scoreless baseball out of the pen, while the three starters have a combined ERA of 6.75.
