Wichita Falls, Tx. – Schellert and Graves lead SBU to 7-1 victory over Newman University and improve to 2-2 on the season.
In the top of the 1
st inning SBU would strike for three runs. It all started with a
Jaidyn Mawhinney walk, then she stole second, and advanced to third on an infield single from
Lauren Strobel. After a Strobel stolen base,
Dana Graves would hit a sacrifice fly that would score Mawhinney. Strobel would come in on an error by Newman, and the inning would be capped off by a
Megan Schellert RBI single to right giving SBU a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the 3
rd inning Strobel would once again get things started with a base hit up the middle, but
Dana Graves would ground into a fielder's choice retiring Strobel.
Catlin Evans would reach on a throwing error from Newman and would advance to 2
nd on the throw. Following the error, Schellert would come up with a big 2-RBI single to give SBU a 5-0 lead over Newman.
After a groundout and a fly out to start the top of the 4
th inning,
Kori Hillenburg and Mawhinney would hit back to back singles, and following another error by Newman, Graves would bring in Hillenburg with a base hit to centerfield and SBU would go up 6-0. Evans and Schellert would open the top of the 5
th inning with back to back singles, and Schellert would later score on an
Alexis Dock single up the middle which would give SBU a 7-0 lead.
Kacey Ayers would pitch a complete game allowing 4 hits and striking out 6. Ayers improves to 2-1 on the season.
The Bearcats will be back on the diamond Friday, February 17 as they will be taking part in the 8-State Classic. SBU's first game of the tournament will be against Rockhurst at 9AM from Bentonville, Arkansas.
