Box Score Tahlequah, Okla. - A tough shooting day Saturday afternoon was ultimately too much to overcome for the Southwest Baptist Women's Basketball team against Northeastern State. The Bearcats were defeated 69-52 and with the loss, their record now stands at 7-3 (0-2 MIAA).
Northeastern State jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead only to see that suddenly evaporate as the Bearcats went on a quick 7-0 run to retake the lead. The teams would struggle to put points up for the next few minutes. That was until Laura Vierkant nailed a three to put SBU up 13-8 with 2:40 to go in the first quarter. After the Vierkant triple, NSU had a 10-4 run to close the quarter and take a 18-17 lead into the 2nd period. The 2nd quarter was tight with NSU only outscoring the Bearcats 16-13. It was a particularly solid quarter for Morgan Henderson and Megan Rosenbohm as they combined to score 11 of those 13 points in the 2nd for SBU. The 16-13 scoring advantage sent the Riverhawks into the locker room with a 34-30 lead.
In the 3rd quarter, the Bearcats could not buy a bucket and the Riverhawks jumped out to a 15 point lead in the first four minutes. A three from Madison Strong got the NSU lead down to 16 with 2:06 to go, but by the end of the quarter, NSU had expanded their lead to 58-37. Despite a better fourth quarter from SBU, in which they outscored NSU 15-11, the lead the Riverhawks had was too great for SBU to surmount.
Henderson led the way for SBU with 14 points off the bench. Rosenbohm had a good all around game with 11 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Caylee Richardson was in double figures as well with 11 points along with 4 rebounds. The Bearcats had the advantage in bench points over Northeastern State, 43-30. Shooting wise, SBU shot 27.0% from the floor, 17.4% from three, and 70.0% at the line.
SBU returns to the floor on Saturday, November 16th when they host #10 Central Missouri (5-1, 0-0 MIAA). Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 PM from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar, Missouri.
