Box Score Edmond, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist Men's Basketball went on the road Thursday night to face the Central Oklahoma Bronchos to begin MIAA conference play. The Bronchos defeated the Bearcats by a final score of 83-64. SBU now holds a 4-4 record (0-1 MIAA).
University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) scored the first seven points before an Andy Campbell three got the Bearcats on the board. Another three from Campbell brought the Bearcats to be only down 11-8 with 13:43 left in the first half. After the second Campbell three, for the next seven minutes went on 20-3 run to bring their lead to 31-11. With 1:22 left in the half, the Bearcats had responded to cut the deficit to 12 on a Cartier Dean three pointer. A three from Kole Talbott of the Bronchos made the score 43-28 going into the break.
Coming out of locker room, the Bronchos quickly stretched their lead to 49-30 but the Bearcats continued to fight. A barrage of threes from Marlon Alcindor and Kai Woodfall reduced the UCO lead to only 57-45 with 13:13 remaining in the game. Over the next four minutes, the Bronchos would increase their lead to 14 or 16 only to see the Bearcats cut it back down to 12. At the 9:20 mark, a Karim Mouliom layup made the UCO lead 63-51. The Bearcats would not get any closer the rest of the way as the Bronchos went on a mini run and finished off a 83-64 victory.
Alcindor led the Bearcats in scoring with 16 points on 4 of 9 shooting, including 3 three's, and a perfect 5 for 5 at the line. He added 4 rebounds as well. Karim Mouliom and Kai Woodfall each scored 9 points while Damian Prgomet came close to a double double with 8 points and 8 rebounds. For the night, SBU shot 32.7% from the field, 52.9% from three, and 71.9% on free throws.
Southwest Baptist continues their road trip in Oklahoma Saturday afternoon when they take on another MIAA opponent, Northeastern State. Tip is set for 3:30 PM from Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
