Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - Junior guard Kai Woodfall lit up the scoreboard and shattered some of his career highs in a 93-61 victory over Ozark Christian on Saturday afternoon. With the win, SBU pushes their record to 7-5 (1-2 MIAA) this season.
Woodfall poured in 27 points on seven made threes and a perfect six of six at the line. Woodfall's previous career high for points was 23 and the most threes he had made in a game was five. Overall for the game, he was 7 of 12 from the field and 7 of 11 from three. Logan Hovey returned from injury after missing the past four games and scored 13 points, tallied seven rebounds, and converted 50% of his field goal attempts. Damian Prgomet posted another double double with 12 points and 10 boards. Maris Colton was the only other Bearcat in double figures with 10 points and eight rebounds. For the game, the Bearcats shot 48.6% (34-70) on field goals, 38.2% (13-34) on threes, and 70.6% (12-17) on free throws. SBU owned Ozark Christian on the glass, collecting 57 rebounds to Ozark Christian's 29. SBU also passed the ball extremely well, dishing out 24 assists on 34 of its made baskets.
It was a slow start for Southwest Baptist as they only lead 16-9 with 10 minutes to go in the first half. The Bearcats turned on the scoring the next few minutes by stretching their lead to 29-15 on one of Woodfall's seven threes. SBU ended their scoring in the first half with a Hovey triple to make the score 39-22, but Ozark Christian would add a bucket to make it 39-24 going into the half.
Coming out of the locker room, SBU exploded for a 17-3 spurt that was finished off by five straight points from Marlon Alcindor. At that point, the lead was 56-27 in favor of the Bearcats. Ozark Christian got within twenty a couple of times but the theme of the day, a Woodfall three, brought the SBU lead out to thirty points, 84-54 with 4:04 left. The Bearcats would then close out Ozark Christian to a final tune of 93-61.
Southwest Baptist will look to defend its home court again Thursday night when they welcome MIAA opponent, Nebraska Kearney. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
