SBU Women Get Hard Earned Road Win Over Rogers State

12/2/2017 4:16:00 PM

Box Score Claremore, Okla. - A strong second half from the Southwest Baptist women's basketball team catapulted the Bearcats to a 74-65 road win over the Rogers State Hillcats Saturday afternoon. SBU was down by a point going into halftime but a 44-34 second half in favor of SBU led them to the victory. The win pushes the Bearcats record to 7-1 this season.

SBU got off to a very cold start as they missed their first nine shots and their only two points in the first five minutes came from two Megan Rosenbohm free throws. With 5:24, a jumper from Rogers State pushed the Hillcats lead to 11-2 early, forcing Head Coach Kelsey Keizer to call a timeout. The timeout settled down the Bearcats but they still played even with the Hillcats for the rest of the quarter. Two free throws from Caylee Richardson to close the quarter made the score 18-10 Rogers State. To start the 2nd quarter, SBU still was ice cold from the field. However, about halfway through the quarter, the Bearcats started to get things rolling on the offensive end. Over the course of six minutes, SBU went on a 16-6 run to get within one. A basket from Rogers State pushed their lead back to three, but a jumper from Morgan Henderson was the last scoring of the half to make the Hillcat lead only 31-30 heading into the locker room.

Right out of the break, Henderson drilled a three to provide the Bearcats a 33-31 lead, which was a lead they would not surrender for the rest of the game. With 3:49 left in the 3rd, Sydney Bandy knocked down another three for SBU to push the lead out to 44-39. Rogers State got within two late in the quarter but Monique Manuel responded with a layup to make the Bearcat advantage 49-45 going to the fourth. Rogers State continued to hang around early in the fourth quarter but with about six minutes left, SBU flexed their muscle to put the Hillcats away. Layups from Henderson and Rosenbohm and a Rosenbohm three at the 4:54 mark extended the Bearcat advantage to double digits, 64-53. In the final minutes, SBU made 9 of their 11 free throws to put the game on ice and give them a 74-65 win.

With 22 points this afternoon, Megan Rosenbohm now has 20+ points in seven of the eight games SBU has played. She also added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and made 90% (9-10) of her free throws. Morgan Henderson tied her career high in points with 18 on 60% (6-10) from the field and 100% (4-4) at the line. Caylee Richardson was the leading rebounder for SBU as she collected 13 misses this afternoon. As a team, SBU shot 35.7% from the floor, 35.3% from beyond the arc, and 84.8% at the charity stripe.

SBU returns to action Thursday night when they open MIAA conference play against #21 University of Central Oklahoma. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM in Edmond, Oklahoma.
