Men's Basketball Opens up 2017-18 Season Hosting SBU Classic

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist will open up their 2017-18 season when they host the SBU Classic. The Bearcats will take on Oklahoma Baptist on Friday, followed by a Saturday match-up with Southwestern Oklahoma State.

The Coaches
SBU head coach Clark Sheehy begins his fourth season on the SBU bench after compiling a 36-50 (19-41 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 218-151 across twelve seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.

Quinn Wooldridge begins his third season as the head coach at Oklahoma Baptist. Wooldridge holds a career coaching record of 14-38.

Bob Battisti begins his fifth season as the head coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State. Battisti holds a career coaching record of 465-353 across 28 years, including a 56-57 record while at SWOSU.

Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats finished the 2016-17 season 15-14 (8-11 MIAA). SBU returns three of their five starters, headlined by All-MIAA 3rd Team selection Logan Hovey. Hovey averaged 13.3 ppg and 4.9 rpg while shooting 54.4% from the field. Cartier Dean and Kai Woodfall return for their junior seasons after averaging 8.6 and 7.3 ppg respectively.

Scouting the Bison
Oklahoma Baptist is coming off of a 7-19 (4-18 GAC) record a season ago. The Bison return their leading scorer from a season ago in Chandler Rickey who averaged 17.1 ppg and a team high 7.0 rpg. OBU also returns Travon Moore and Vladimir Nemcok who both averaged double-figures last season.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Southwestern Oklahoma State University is coming off of a 6-22 (3-19 GAC) season last year. The Bulldogs return their second leading scorer in Devin Pugh who averaged 13.1 ppg and 4.1 rpg. SWOSU returns three of their five starters from a season ago.
