Box Score Kirksville, Mo. - Kendrick Payne broke the SBU career receiving yards record with a strong individual performance at Truman State on Saturday, but the Bearcats fell 28-12 in the contest. SBU now stands at 4-5 (3-3 GLVC) on the season.
Kendrick Payne led the offense for the Bearcats with a game high 123 receiving yards and a touchdown, breaking the SBU career receiving yards record while also moving into 2nd place on the all-time receiving yards list for the GLVC. TJ Edwards eclipsed the 300-yard mark by throwing for 301 yards and also adding a rushing touchdown. Defensively Quinlan Gaines had a game high 13 tackles, while
Tyler Curts added 11 tackles in the loss.
The Bearcats opened up the game with a touchdown on their first drive of the afternoon. On the first drive of the game Edwards hit
Chris Robb and Cassian Foreman with 21-yard passes, and capped off the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. Truman responded with a touchdown on the following drive, another in the second quarter, but a big goal line stand resulting in a fumble recovery by Jonathan Buffin with 6 seconds left in the half kept SBU close as they trailed 14-6 at the half.
Truman added touchdowns in the third and fourth quarter, as SBU trailed 28-6 with 2:51 to go in the game. Larry Nixon led the Bearcat drive with an 8-yard rush, followed with receptions of 17-yards and 9-yards to Payne. Edwards then hit Foreman with 22-yard pass, and capped off the drive with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Payne as SBU pulled within two scores at 28-12. A failed onside kick attempt sealed the game from Truman as SBU fell 28-12.
The Bearcats will return home on Saturday, November 11 for senior day against Lincoln. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. from Plaster Stadium in Bolivar.
