Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist will host Ecclesia College on Thursday night in a non-conference matchup from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar, Missouri. Tomorrow night's matchup will mark the first time Ecclesia and Southwest Baptist have faced each other.
Previewing the Bearcats
The Bearcats have opened up the 2017-18 season with a 3-3 record. Their last time out the Bearcats defeated Hannibal-LaGrange in convincing fashion, 89-66. The Bearcats are paced by senior forward Logan Hovey who averaged 25.5 ppg in the Bearcats two wins last week. For the year, Hovey averages a team high 21.3 ppg and 9.5 rpg. Juniors Cartier Dean and Marlon Alcindor average double figure scoring with 12.3 ppg and 12.5 ppg, respectively. Dean is also the second leading rebounder on the team with 5.2 rpg. As a team, the Bearcats are scoring 81.2 ppg and shooting 45.3% from behind the arc.
Previewing the Royals
The Ecclesia College Royals are winless on the year with 0-8 record. In their last game on November 27th, they lost to Oklahoma Panhandle State 80-59. The Royals are led by DQ Bagsby and Cash Krueger. Bagsby averages 12.6 ppg and Krueger averages 11.0 ppg on 51% shooting. Noah Banks is the leading rebounder with 6.9 rpg.
The Coaches
SBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his fourth season on the SBU bench, holding a 39-53 (19-41 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 221-154 across twelve seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Al McCarron is in his second year at Ecclesia College, serving his first year as Associate Head Coach. Prior to joining the Royals, McCarron was an assistant at Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas.
