Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist women's basketball team picked up a rather convincing win 111-51 over the Avila University Eagles Friday night.Ā  The win puts the Bearcats at 4-0 to start the season.Ā Ā

It was a tight game in the early going with SBU only leading 14-12 with 4:45 left in the first quarter.Ā  The teams would trade baskets for the next two minutes before Madison Strong hit a three to give SBU a 19-17 lead.Ā  The Strong three ignited the Bearcats as they closed the first quarter on a 12-3 run.Ā  The run was capped by a Megan Rosenbohm three pointer and a layup from Caylee Richardson.

In the second quarter, the Bearcats really started to separate themselves from the Eagles. A three from Ray'Shionne Smith pushed the Bearcat lead out to 13 with 7:55 to go in the quarter.Ā  At the 2:03 mark, the Bearcats stretched their lead to 20 on another basket from Smith.Ā  Fueled by a 10 point quarter from Smith, the Bearcats outscored the Eagles 26-9 in the second quarter and took a 55-29 lead into halftime. This was the first halftime lead that the Bearcats had taken into the break this season.

The third quarter was more tightly contested. The Eagles came out with a quick five points on a layup by Luci Sarcone and a three from Kaleigh Taylor.Ā  The Bearcats would respond with a layup and a three from freshman Regan Tibbits. Then an old fashioned three point play from Caylee Richardson stretched the Bearcat lead to 31 with 4:36 to go in the period. Despite only outscoring the Eagles by 4 in the quarter,Ā the Bearcats still held a 78-48 lead going into the 4th.Ā  Ā Ā

The fourth quarter was a different story as the Bearcats cruised to a 33-3 quarter and a 111-51 victory. The Bearcats had excellent play all the way around the whole night.
