Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team picked up a big 93-82 victory over #7 Drury on Tuesday evening. With the win the Bearcats improve to 3-0 on the season.
Drury came out strong to open up the game, as SBU trailed 6-0 after two minutes of play. Trailing 8-2, the Bearcats used a 8-0 run, fueled by Megan Rosenbohm's six points, to take their first lead of the game at 10-8 with 5:11 left in the quarter. The Bearcats pushed their lead to three at 15-12 off of a Bailey Rezabeck free throw, but would head into the second quarter trailing 17-15.
In the second quarter the Bearcats and Panthers continued to battle, as SBU was within one at 22-21 with 7:19 left in the half. However, Drury used a 13-4 run to push their lead to double-figures for the first time all evening, and led by 11 (42-31) with 1:14 left in the half. The Bearcats closed out the half on a 4-0 run off of a layup from Raegan Tibbits and a pair of free throws from Caylee Richardson as SBU went into the break trailing 42-35.
The Bearcats continued to fight and hang with the 7th ranked Lady Panthers, and trailed 53-45 with 3:07 remaining in the third quarter. SBU used back-to-back three's from Sydney Bandy and Morgan Henderson, followed by a layup from Madison Strong, to pull even with DU at 53-53 with 1:20 left in the quarter. Drury held a small advantage for the next minute, but an old-fashioned three-point play from Tibbits gave SBU a 58-56 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The SBU offense exploded for 35 points in the final quarter of play. Five ties and four lead changes occurred during the first three minutes of the final quarter of action before Southwest Baptist took control. With the game tied at 66 all SBU went on a 11-2 run, with Ray'Shionne Smith giving SBU 9 points during the run, to take a 76-67 lead with 5:03 remaining. Tibbits connected on a three to give SBU their first double-digit lead of the game at 79-69, as the Bearcats would cruise to the 93-82 victory over the #7 ranked Lady Panthers.
Megan Rosenbohm continued her strong start to the season by scoring a game high 26 points with 6 rebounds, while Raegan Tibbits scored a career high 20 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Caylee Richardson gave SBU her second straight double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Ray'Shionne Smith chipped in 14 points in the victory. As a team SBU shot 49.1% from the field, 26.3% from beyond the arc, and 84.2% from the line.
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, November 17 when they host Avila. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
