Bolivar, Mo. - Logan Hovey narrowly missed his third straight double-double for the SBU Men's Basketball team on Tuesday evening against Drury as the Bearcats fell 89-61 to the visiting Panthers. With the loss the Bearcats drop to 1-2 on the young season.
The Bearcats and Tigers played a tight first eleven plus minutes of the first half. DU opened up the game by scoring the first five points before Logan Hovey connected on a three as the Bearcats trailed 5-3 early on. Drury extended their lead to seven before a 5-0 solo from Marlon Alcindor brought SBU back within two at 10-8 with 15:41 left in the first half. The Bearcats cut back into the lead with a pair of free throws from Karim Mouliom, trailing 13-12, and after DU again extended their lead to seven, Mouliom connected on a three as SBU trailed 21-17 with 8:23 to go in the half. However, Drury would slowly build their lead as the Bearcats went into the half trailing 45-27. In the second half the Panthers continued to slowly build the lead, as SBU would eventually fall 89-61.
Logan Hovey and Marlon Alcindor led the Bearcats with 14 points a piece, while Hovey pulled down 8 rebounds. Karim Mouliom was also in double-figures for SBU with 10 points as Chris Rossow dished out a team high 6 assists in the loss. As a team SBU shot 39.6% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc, and 58.6% from the line.
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, November 18 when they travel to William Jewell. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. from Liberty, Missouri.
