Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's soccer team had a strong showing against Northeastern State on Monday evening, but fell 2-1 to the visiting RiverHawks. With the loss SBU falls to 1-13 (1-5 MIAA) on the season.
Northeastern State was the first to strike in the 12th minute of play, and added their second goal in the 38th minute of play, as Southwest Baptist went into the half trailing 2-0. The Bearcat defense held strong in the second half, not allowing any additional goals to NSU, as SBU cut the deficit in half in the 83rd minute of play.
Daniel Santibanez sent a beautiful pass across the box, and over the defense, where Emmanual Poblano connected with the bottom corner of the net to pull SBU within one at 2-1. However, Southwest Baptist was unable to score the equalizer as the Bearcats would eventually fall 2-1.
Southwest Baptist will return to action on Thursday, October 26 when they host Delta State for senior day. Play is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. from Plaster Stadium in Bolivar.
