Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist returns to MIAA play to open up the new year on Thursday at Nebraska-Kearney as part of a short two-game road trip.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his third season on the SBU bench after compiling a 21-36 (11-30 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 203-137 across eleven seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Kevin Lofton begins his 2nd season as the head coach at Nebraska-Kearney. Lofton holds a career head coaching record of 21-12, with a 156-125 record as co-head coach at UNK (10 seasons).
The series between Southwest Baptist and Nebraska-Kearney is tied 4-4. The Lopers claimed an 85-64 victory last season in Kearney, while Southwest Baptist won last season in Bolivar 70-60.
Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats come into the game at Nebraska-Kearney 8-4 (1-2 MIAA) and are coming off of a 116-70 victory over Ozark Christian College. SBU is led in scoring by
Brian Patterson who averages 12.2 ppg and a team high 6.7 rpg, while
Logan Hovey is also averaging double figures at 11.5 ppg.
Cartree Pettis leads the Bearcats in assists with 4.1 apg to go along with 7.7 ppg. SBU presents a balanced scoring attack with eight players averaging over six points a piece.
Scouting the Lopers
Nebraska-Kearney comes into the game against Southwest Baptist 10-3 (3-1 MIAA) on the season. The Lopers are coming off of a 69-66 non-conference victory over Benedictine College. UNK is led in scoring by Trey Lansman who averages 17.2 ppg and a team high 8.4 rpg. Yashua Trent averages 15.1 ppg and a team high 4.5 apg, while Ty Danielson (12.5 ppg) and Isaiah McKay (11.4 ppg) both average double figures.
