Bolivar Mo. – Mouliom's career high paces SBU as they defeat Emporia State 84-62 to improve to 11-9 (4-7 MIAA) on the season.
Emporia State would start the game on a 6-0 run, but a
Brian Patterson layup would start a 13-3 run for the Bearcats. The run would give SBU a 13-9 lead with 12:13 remaining in the half. Emporia would stop the run with a pair of free throws, but
Louis Baltazar would hit a layup that would start a 30-9 SBU run. During the run
Karim Mouliom would score 10 points, and the Bearcats would get baskets from 7 different players during the run as SBU would take a 22 point lead at 43-21 with 2:23 left in the half. The Hornets would end the half on a 7-4 run and SBU would take a 47-28 lead into the half.
The second half would start with a 7-2 run by Emporia State cutting the SBU lead to 49-35 with 15:31 remaining in the game. Mouliom would start a 7-0 Bearcat run with a layup, followed by a
Logan Hovey three, and a
Cartree Pettis layup which would extend the SBU lead to 56-35 with 14:02 left in the game. Emporia State would go on an 8-0 run cutting the SBU lead to 58-43, but
Matt Ridder would hit a three to end Emporia's run. After a 9-4 Emporia run, Mouliom would hit back-to-back layups and SBU would lead 71-52 with 5:38 remaining in the game. The Bearcats would end the game on a 15-10 run and come away with an 84-62 victory.
The Bearcats were led in scoring by
Karim Mouliom who had a career high 24 points.
Logan Hovey added 19 while
Cartier Dean and
Kalund Brown each had 8.
Kai Woodfall led the Bearcats with 8 boards, while Hovey had 5 and Mouliom had 4. The Bearcats shot 69.8% from the field, 40.0% from the three point line, and 69.2% from the line.
The Bearcats will return to action Thursday February 2nd when they travel to Northeastern State. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm from the NSU Event Center in Tahlequah, Okla.
