SBU Men's Basketball Hosts Emporia State on Saturday

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist continues their homestand by hosting Emporia State on SBU Alumni day on Saturday.

The Coaches & The All-Time Series
SBU head coach Clark Sheehy begins his third season on the SBU bench after compiling a 21-36 (11-30 MIAA) record while at SBU. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 203-137 across eleven seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.

Shaun Vandiver begins his 6th season as the head coach at Emporia State. The former NBA First Round Draft Pick holds a career coaching record of 65-77.

Southwest Baptist leads the all-time series against Emporia State 29-21. The Hornets claimed a 73-71 victory over the Bearcats the last time these two teams met last season.

Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats come into the game against Emporia state 10-9 (3-7 MIAA) and are coming off of a 76-63 loss to Washburn. SBU is led in scoring by Logan Hovey who is averaging 11.8 ppg, while Brian Patterson averages 10.5 ppg and a team high 5.8 rpg. Cartree Pettis leads the Bearcats in assists with 3.3 apg to go along with 6.9 ppg. SBU presents a balanced scoring attack with six players averaging over seven points a piece. SBU shoots 46.7% from the field, 35.9% from beyond the arc, and averages 74.3 ppg.

Scouting the Hornets
Emporia State comes into the game against Southwest Baptist 10-9 (6-4 MIAA) and are coming off of a 66-58 loss at Central Missouri. Emporia State is led in scoring by Brandon Hall, who averages 13.9 pp, 3.8 apg, and is the only Hornet to average double-figures. Josh Pedersen averages 9.8 ppg, while Brian Morton averages 9.2 ppg, and Garlin Vandiver pulls down a team high 5.2 rpg. As a team ESU is shooting 43.9% from the field, 38.6% from beyond the arc, and is averaging 75.7 ppg.
