Bolivar, Mo. – On Saturday, Southwest Baptist University's League of Legends team defeated the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks, 2-0.
Joseph Reyes (LordVadarem) led SBU in a dominant first game against Lehigh University. In the first 7 minutes, SBU secured 3 kills on Mountain Hawk's Mid-laner, Luke Kwon (VIVEJC), after Kwon was forced into an early burn of his summoner spells. Along with strong performances from
Sean Bates (Bouse Ranger) and
Steven Verlautz (Foolishkings), SBU showed a 12-1 kill lead at 13 minutes. Lehigh surrendered Game 1 in the 20
th minute.
The Collegiate StarLeague allows each team to substitute a player between games 3 times per season. Lehigh chose to utilize one of their substitutes against SBU. Jason Stein (jasonpwn) replaced Kwon. The Mountain Hawks then shifted three of their players into new positions in an attempt to gain an edge on the Bearcats. Stein (jasonpwn) moved to ADC, Ethan Kwan (Kwanton) moved to Jungle, and Jordan Parks (iReaper900) took over in Mid-lane.
Game 2, and a match victory, was won by SBU in the 29
th minute.
Shane Roberts (BaconOP) and Verlautz (Foolishkings), carried the Bearcats to a win with a combined total of 23 kills and 58k damage dealt to the Mountain Hawk's champions. The Bearcats finished the game ahead in kills 35-14 and assists 59-18.
SBU's record advances to 2-0 in the spring split and an overall season record of 6-3. The Bearcats are currently ranked 1
st in Group 28 of Division 2. The top teams from each group will move to a 128 team, single-elimination playoff, which is scheduled to begin March 18
th, 2017.
The League of Legends Bearcats will face Rutgers University's Scarlet Eagle team on Saturday, January 28
th at 2:00 PM from their home arena in the Goodson Student Union on Bolivar's campus.
