Jefferson City, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team fell on the road at Lincoln on Saturday afternoon 72-70. With the loss SBU drops to 11-7 (3-6 MIAA) on the season.
Megan Rosenbohm opened up the game with a jumper to give the Bearcats an early 2-0 lead. After back-to-back baskets from Lincoln, SBU used an 8-0 run to take a 10-5 lead with 6:47 left in the quarter.
Alex Botkin opened connected on a three pointer, followed by a jumper, and capped off by a Rosenbohm three to complete the run. LU cut the lead back to one with 3:30 to go in the quarter, but a layup from Rosenbohm and two layups from
Caylee Richardson gave SBU a 20-13 lead before heading into the second quarter ahead 22-17.
In the second quarter back-to-back three's from
Taylor Jackson gave the Bearcats their first double-digit lead of the game at 30-19 with 8:17 remaining in the half. After Lincoln cut the lead back under ten,
Laura Vierkant hit a three with 5:20 left in the half to give SBU a 33-21 lead. LU continued to hang around, but SBU answered with every basket made by the Blue Tigers as the Bearcats went into the half leading 41-30.
The Bearcats continued to extend their lead as the second half opened, as Richardson and
Morgan Henderson both connected on layups to extend the SBU lead to 45-30. With 6:27 left in the third quarter, Rosenbohm knocked down a three followed by a layup to give the Bearcats a 20 point lead at 52-32. The Bearcats continued to push, and after a jumper from
Aliyah Isaac extended the SBU lead to a game high 23 (59-36), the Bearcats went into the fourth quarter leading 59-43.
LU opened up the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to cut into the SBU lead before an old fashioned three point play from
Morgan Henderson ended the Lincoln run with the Bearcats leading 62-52. A layup from Rosenbohm with 6:56 remaining extended the lead to 11 at 66-55 but the Blue Tigers continued to chip away at the lead. With the Bearcats leading 68-59, Lincoln used an 8-0 run to cut the SBU lead down to 1 at 68-67. LU closed the game on a 5-2 run, as a game tying bucket didn't fall for SBU in the finals seconds as the Bearcats fell 72-70.
Megan Rosenbohm had a game high 22 points to lead the Bearcats, while
Alex Botkin had 11 points and
Caylee Richardson chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. As a team SBU shot 47.6% from the field, 42.9% from beyond the arc, and 57.1% from the line.
The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, January 26 when they host Washburn. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
