SBU Football to Travel to Tarleton State on Saturday

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team will hit the road on Saturday, September 10 when they travel to Tarleton State for a non-conference game against the Texans.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
Robert Clardy will begin his second season as the head coach on the Bearcat bench. Coach Clardy has spent the last eight seasons on the coaching staff at Southwest Baptist University, serving many roles during his tenure including Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach, and Wide Receivers Coach. Coach Clardy has produced three All-American's, most recently Antion McBee off of last year's squad, while seeing his athletes break numerous SBU, GLVC, and NCAA records.

Todd Whitten is in his 7th season as the head coach for Tarleton State. Whitten has had three different tenure's as Tarleton's head coach, and holds a career coaching record of 70-51 (45-23 at Tarleton State).

Saturday's game marks the second meeting between Southwest Baptist and Tarleton State. Tarleton State leads the series 1-0, as the Bearcats fell 54-7 at TSU in 1983, SBU's first year of varsity football.

Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist comes into the game against Tarleton State 1-0 after defeating fellow LSC school Eastern New Mexico 49-35 last week. Offensively, the Bearcats put up 550 yards of total offense, led by Bubba Jenkins (173 rushing yards, 52 receiving yards), TJ Edwards (261 passing yards, 23 rushing yards), and Kendrick Payne (126 receiving yards). On the defensive side of the ball, the Bearcats held ENMU to 94 passing yards, while Shaun Hutchinson and Nick Burns both had 9 tackles a piece and Via Manuma had SBU's lone sack.

Scouting Tarleton State
Tarleton State comes into the game against Southwest Baptist 0-1 after falling to FCS #9 McNeese 33-3 . Tarleton State struggled offensively in the game, collecting only 134 yards of total offense while going 0-12 on 3rd down conversions. The Texans used two quarterbacks, Garrett Simpson and Zed Woerner, with Simpson leading the way with 120 yards on 7-18 passing. Bubba Tandy pulled down a team high 5 receptions for 91 yards, while the entire TSU rushing attack totaled -5 yards on the game. Defensively Cody Burtscher had a team high 10 tackles with a team high 1.5 sacks.
