Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team fell in their season opener to #17 Augustana on Thursday afternoon 6-1. With the loss, SBU falls to 0-1 on the season.
The Bearcats and Vikings played a tight contest throughout the first half, with AUGIE taking a 1-0 lead into the half. In the second half Augustana started to slowly pull away, netting a pair of goals in the first 14 minutes of play in the second half. After AUGIE extended their lead to 6-0, the Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the 73rd minute. After a cross was deflected in the box,
Elin Hammar found the lose ball and put it in the back of the net as SBU trailed 6-1. However, the Bearcats were unable to score another goal as SBU would eventually fall 6-1.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, September 3 when they travel to Southwestern Oklahoma State. Play is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. from Weatherford, Oklahoma.
