Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's soccer team hung tight with Ouachita Baptist in their opening game of the 2016 season, but fell 2-0 to visiting Tigers. With the loss, SBU drops to 0-1 on the season.
The Tigers and Bearcats played a tight first half, with each team recording three shots a piece heading into the 35th minute of play. After a foul in the box in the 41st minute, OBU connected on a penalty kick as SBU fell behind 1-0. In the 43rd minute, OBU struck again as the Bearcats trailed 2-0 heading into the half.Â
In the second half SBU dominated possession, outshooting the Tigers 8-1, but failed to get on the scoreboard as the Bearcats fell 2-0.
Garrett Gibson led the Bearcats with 6 shot attempts, while
Lajos Zadravecz picked up a save in goal.
SBU will return to action on Sunday, September 4 when they travel to Rogers State. Play is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. from Claremore, Oklahoma.
