Springfield, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's soccer team drew a 3-3 tie against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday afternoon in Springfield. At the conclusion of the day the Bearcats now stand at 0-6-1 on the season.
SBU was the first to strike in 28th minute of action when
Jesus Lopez dribbled down the middle of the field, found
Garrett Gibson on his right where Gibson then put the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to put the Bearcats on top 1-0. Oklahoma Baptist in the 36th minute with a goal of their own, and the two teams would head into halftime tied 1-1.
In the second half the Bearcats once again gained a one goal lead in the 54th minute.
Garrett Gibson headed in a throw-in from
Jason Hasenohr to put SBU on top 2-1. OBU answered with goals in the 68th and 73rd minutes as the Bearcats trailed 3-2. However, with only 33 seconds remaining in regulation,
Dylan Saib took a loose ball in box and put it up over the keepers head to tie the game at 3-3. Neither team scored in the two overtime periods as SBU and OBU ended the game with a 3-3 tie.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, September 20 when they host Maryville. Play is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar.
