Bolivar, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats are set to travel to the GAC/MIAA Crossover Tournament to be held at both Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist over the weekend.
The Coaches
Caira Dortch will begin her third season as the head coach at Southwest Baptist, and holds a career coaching record of 15-44 (8-32 MIAA). Prior to soming to SBU, Dortch previously coached at Drury and Evangel.
Josh Collins is in his 5th season as the head coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State. Collins holds a career coaching record of 56-72 including a 33-25 mark in GAC play.
Fredrick Wagner enters his 2nd season as the head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State. Wagner holds a career coaching record of 11-18 after compiling a 55-36 coaching record at Iowa Central CC.
Anna Howle begins her 9th season as the head coach at Oklahoma Baptist. Howle boasts a career coaching record of 231-85 and is a three-time Conference Coach of the Year.
Brianna Barry begins her 3rd season as the head coach at Southeastern Oklahoma State. Barry holds a career collegiate coaching record of 25-37.
Scouting the Opponents
Southwestern Oklahoma State enters the GAC/MIAA Crossover 1-5 on the season, with their only win on the year coming against West Texas A&M. Carly Zak leads the Bulldogs with a team high 84 kills (4.20/set), while Kayla Hebert handles all the setting duties (8.26/set). Defensively SWOSU has three athletes averaging at least 2.40 digs/set.
Northwestern Oklahoma State enters the GAC/MIAA Crossover 0-10 on the season, having dropped 13 in a row dating back to last season. The Rangers are led offensively by Natalie Fahey (2.27 kills/set) and Hannah Williams (2.21 kills/set), while setting duties are split between Vanessa Maile (4.52 assists/set) and Kiauna Clark (4.57 assists/set). Defensively NWOSU has six athletes averaging over 2.00 digs/set.
Oklahoma Baptist enters the GAC/MIAA Crossover 4-6 on the season. The Lady Bison are led offensively by Mikayla Watson (3.10 kills/set) and Nicole Fleitman (3.09 kills/set). Kynnedy Myers averages a team high 8.58 assists/set, while 4 Lady Bison all average over 3.00 digs/set.
Southeastern Oklahoma State enters the GAC/MIAA Crossover 5-3 on the season. SE is led offensively by Karine Cavalcante (3.17 kills/set) and Abby Jameson (3.16 kills/set), while Alissa Benson is averaging 10.74 assists/set. Defensively Caitlin Cosby averages a team high 5.34 digs/set.
Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist enters the SBU Invitational 2-6 on the season, and are coming off of a 3-0 loss to Harding. The Bearcats are led offensively by Dana Neal who averages a team high 2.30 kills/set, and is third on the team with 2.47 digs/set. Setting duties are split between Serena Mar (4.07 assists/set) and Brea Freeman (3.03 assists/set), while Bailey Baumann averages a team high 4.83 digs/set.
