Edmond, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team split in the opening day of the MIAA/GAC Crossover Tournament. The Bearcats picked up a 3-2 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State before falling to Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-1. At the conclusion of the day the Bearcats now stand at 3-7 on the season.
The Bearcats had an impressive showing in their 3-2 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State. SBU took set one 25-19 before falling in two and three 25-19 and 25-22. Southwest Baptist then came back to take sets four and five, 25-23 and 15-12, to earn the 3-2 victory.
Dana Neal had a historic game, posting a career high 24 kills while hitting an impressive .514 while also collecting a team high 14 digs.
Serena Mar also collected another double-double, posting team highs in assists (22) and digs (14), while
Leah Rader also chipped in 12 kills in the win.
In the second game of the day, the Bearcats fell in sets one and two 28-26 and 25-19 before coming back to take set three 25-21. However, the Bearcats fell 28-26 in the final set as SBU dropped 3-1. Neal continued her strong day by recording a team high 18 kills, while hitting .350, to go along with 12 digs.
Bailey Baumann recorded a game high 23 digs, while
Serena Mar had a team high 20 assists in the loss.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, September 17 for the final day of the MIAA/GAC Crossover Tournament. The Bearcats are set to take on host Oklahoma Baptist at 9am followed by a 5pm match against Southeastern Oklahoma State from Shawnee, Oklahoma.
