SBU Football Opens up GLVC Play by Hosting Indianapolis on Saturday

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team will look to pick up their third straight win of the 2016 season, and fifth dating back to last year, when they open up GLVC play by hosting Indianapolis. The Bearcats and Greyhounds, who were picked to re-peat as GLVC champions, will kickoff at 6:00 p.m. from Plaster Stadium on Saturday.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
Robert Clardy will begin his second season as the head coach on the Bearcat bench. Coach Clardy has spent the last eight seasons on the coaching staff at Southwest Baptist University, serving many roles during his tenure including Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach, and Wide Receivers Coach. Coach Clardy has produced three All-American's, most recently Antion McBee off of last year's squad, while seeing his athletes break numerous SBU, GLVC, and NCAA records.

Bob Bartolomeo is in his 7th season as the head coach for Indianapolis. Bartolomeo has led the Greyhounds to four straight GLVC championships, while going 30-1 in GLVC play. Overall, Bartolomeo holds a career coaching record of 66-25-1, including a 52-18-1 mark at UIndy.

Indianapolis leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 2-0. The Greyhounds claimed a 26-24 victory last season in Indianapolis.

Scouting the Greyhounds
Indianapolis comes into the game against Southwest Baptist 0-2 on the season after falling to Marion, the top ranked NAIA team in the nation, last week 38-16. The Greyhounds, who spent the first two weeks recieving votes in the AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, fell out of the poll for the first time this season. UIndy is led offensively by Jake Purichia who averages 269.5 yards per game through the air, while Malik Higgins averages 136.0 receiving yards per game. On the ground, Andrew Walker averages 35.0 yards per game. Defensively Rob Drury leads the Greyhounds with 29.0 total tackles (14.5 per game), followed closely by Derrick Bryant with 28.0 total tackles (14.0 per game). Defensively the Greyhounds have yet to force a turnover, and hold a -2 turnover margin.

Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist comes into the game against Indianapolis 2-0 after defeating Tarleton State 31-28 last week. The Bearcats received 5 votes in the most recent AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, receiving votes for only the third time in program history. Offensively, the Bearcats are led by Bubba Jenkins who is averaging 144.0 rushing yards/game, while TJ Edwards is averaging 310.5 yards/game through the air and 49.5 yards/game on the ground. Cassian Foreman (121.5 yards/game) and Kendrick Payne (110.0 yards/game) both average over 100 receiving yards per game. On the defensive side of the ball, the Bearcats are led by Shaun Hutchinson who has 17.5 tackles, while Nick Burns has 15.0 tackles (all solo), and Via Manuma has a team leading 4.0 sacks.
