Bolivar, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats will open up the 2016 season hosting #17 Augustana on Thursday, and then travel to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
Megan Link will begin her second season as the head coach at Southwest Baptist and holds a career coaching record of 9-9 (6-4 MIAA).
Brandon Barkus is in his 11th season as head coach at Augustana and has a career coaching record of 100-79-16. Barkus led the Vikings to a 19-3-1 record last season, including an NCAA tournament berth.
Mark Persson is in his 8th season as head coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State and holds a career coaching record of 68-55-12.
Scouting the Opponents
Augustana went 19-3-1 (13-1-1 NSIC) last season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. The Vikings season ended with a 2-0 loss to Minnesota State in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Last season, Augustana defeated the Bearcats 5-1 in Sioux Falls.
Southwestern Oklahoma State went 13-6-1 (8-3-1 GAC) last season, falling in the championship match of the GAC Tournament to Harding. SWOSU hosts Central Missouri prior to their showdown with the Bearcats.
Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist finished 9-9 (6-4 MIAA) last season, advancing to the 1st round of the MIAA Postseason Tournament. The Bearcats return three All-MIAA players from a season ago in junior defender
