Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's and women's tennis teams picked up 4 All-American honors as handed out by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Christina Zentai earned All-American honors in both singles and doubles play, while Lara Soares was named an All-American in doubles, and
Sherif Abohabaga earned the honor in singles.
In order to be named an ITA All-American, an athlete must finish in the top 20 in the final ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings for singles players, and the top 10 in the final ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings for doubles teams.
Abohabga earned his first All-American honor after being named the MIAA Player of the Year earlier this season, going 16-3 in singles play from the #1 position. Abohabaga defeated 6 nationally ranked singles opponents, and led the Bearcats back to the NCAA Tournament.
Zentai earned her third and fourth All-American honors of her career, including her first career singles All-American recognition. Zentai went 15-5 in singles play, mostly from the #1 position.
In doubles Zentai joined Lara Soares, who picked up her first career All-American honor, to post a 24-2 record including taking down the #7 and #12 ranked doubles teams in the NCAA during the NCAA Tournament.
