Bearcats Hit 4 Homeruns in a 14-8 Loss at Emporia State

Emporia, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell at the hands of Emporia State on Saturday evening 14-8. SBU finishes the season 22-28 (17-22), their fifth straight season of 20+ wins.

Once again SBU jumped ahead early against Emporia State, plating two runs in the top half of the first. Sean Murley drew a two out walk before Carter Sherban hit his 10th homerun of the year, a two-run shot down the left field line to give the Bearcats the early 2-0 lead. Emporia State responded with a run in the bottom of the second, but SBU came back with three runs in the third.

With one out in the third Christian Binger hit a solo homerun to right center, followed by a Murley single through the left side. After a flyout, Jeff Bouchard hit a two-run homerun to left center to increase the Bearcat lead to 5-1. However, the Hornets responded with six runs in the bottom of the fourth as SBU trailed 7-5. The Bearcats got one run back in the fifth off of a Murley solo homerun to left field to pull SBU back within one at 7-6. ESU scored a combined seven runs in the seventh and eighth, and despite RBI's from Bouchard and Hunter Hisky, the Bearcats fell 14-8.
