Emporia, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell on the road at Emporia State on Friday evening 16-6. With the loss, SBU falls to 22-27 (17-21 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats jumped ahead early, plating three runs in the top of the first.
Caleb Sneed led the game off with a walk, followed to batters later by a
Sean Murley single to center field before
Carter Sherban hit a three-run homerun to left field. SBU struck again in the top of the second with back-to-back two out singles from
Cody Massey and Sneed before
Christian Binger hit an rbi single to right field to give SBU a 4-0 lead. Murley then hit an rbi infield single to third to extend the Bearcats lead to 5-0. However, over the next five innings the Bearcats were outscored 16-1 as SBU would end up falling 16-6.
The Bearcats will conclude the 2016 season on Saturday, May 7 when they close out their series at Emporia State. Opening pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. from Emporia, Kansas.
