Box Score Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell on the road at Pittsburg State on Tuesday evening 8-5. With the loss, SBU drops to 21-26 on the season.
Pittsburg State jumped ahead early, as the Bearcats trailed the Gorillas 4-0 after the first two innings of play. After a pair of scoreless innings, the Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. A one out walk by
Cody Massey coupled with a PSU error put two runners on with one out. After both baserunners moved up on a wild pitch,
Chance Wolfe hit a two-out two rbi double down the left field line to cut the PSU lead in half at 4-2.
Caleb Sneed then hit a rbi triple to left center, and came home on a wild pitch as the Bearcats tied the game at 4-4. PSU answered back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs, but Southwest Baptist got one run back in the top of the sixth.
Christian Binger and
Sean Murley hit back-to-back singles to open up the inning, and after Binger advanced to third on a fielder's choice, he came home on a PSU error to cut the deficit to 6-5. The Bearcats were unable to push another run across the plate as they would eventually fall 8-5.
The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, May 5 when they travel to Emporia State to open up a three-game series against the Hornets. Opening pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. from Emporia, Kansas.
