Denver, Colo. - For the fourth consecutive season, the Southwest Baptist University women's tennis team has advanced to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament. The Bearcats took down #40 NYIT 5-2 on Wednesday morning to improve to 25-3 on the season.

Lara Soares picked up an 8-3 victory at no. 1 doubles over the #12 ranked team in the NCAA. NYIT responded by taking no. 3 doubles 8-2 before

Lani Tuemmers picked up the 9-8 victory at no. 2 doubles as SBU led 2-1 heading into singles play.
In singles Zentai made quick work on the #27 ranked singles player, 6-1 6-3, at the no. 1 position. SBU then extended their lead to 4-1 when Zehnder picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at no. 2 singles. NYIT came back to take no. 6 singles 6-3, 6-2 before Soares finished off the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at no. 3 singles, giving SBU the 5-2 victory.
The Bearcats will now advance to the NCAA Elite 8 where they will take on #2 Saint Leo on Thursday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m. CST from Denver, Colorado.
