Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up a big double-header sweep over Northeastern State on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 3-2 followed by a 4-3 game two victory. At the conclusion of the day, SBU now stands at 17-29 (9-13 MIAA) on the season.
In game one the Bearcats jumped ahead early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first. With one out in the first,
Catlin Evans singled through the left side, stole second, and came home on a two-out rbi single by
Dana Graves to give SBU a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats extended their lead in the bottom of the third when
Rachel Ray hit a one-out infield single followed by a two-run homerun to right center by Evans to extend the SBU lead to 3-0.
Kacey Ayers would throw a strong game in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing two runs to go along with four strikeouts as the Bearcats claimed game one 3-2.
In game two the RiverHawks took a 1-0 lead after two innings of play before the Bearcats broke through in the bottom of the third.
Yezzania Gonzalez led off the bottom of the third with a solo homerun to left center to tie the game at 1-1.
Kori Hillenburg then singled to left field, followed by a NSU error which put runners on second and third with no outs. Evans continued her strong game with an rbi bunt single, followed two batters later with a two-run homerun by Graves to put SBU on top 4-1. Hunter MIddleton threw a complete game for SBU as the Bearcats would go on to claim the 4-3 victory.
SBU will return to action on Tuesday, April 12 when they host Drury. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
