Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team used a walk-off 10th inning homerun from
Jeff Bouchard to pick up a 5-4 victory over Washburn on Saturday. With the win, SBU improves to 17-17 (12-12 MIAA) on the season.
After two scoreless innings to open up the game, the Bearcats broke through in the bottom of the third. With one out in the inning
Caleb Sneed doubled to left center and came home two batters later on an rbi single through the left side by
Christian Binger to put SBU on top 1-0. In the fifth the Bearcats extended their lead to 2-0.
Cody Massey led the inning off with a walk, was sacrificed over to second, and came home on an rbi double by
Chance Wolfe.
Brandon Chernoff cruised through the first five innings, holding a no-hitter heading into the top of the sixth before Washburn strung together four hits for three runs as SBU trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh Sneed hit a one out single up the middle, followed by a Wolfe walk. Binger then came through with a clutch two-rbi double to right center to give SBU the lead at 4-3. However, after a scoreless eighth, Washburn hit a solo homerun in the ninth forcing extra innings.
In the bottom of the tenth with one out,
Jeff Bouchard hit his first career walk-off homerun as SBU claimed the 5-4 victory.
SBU will hit the road on Wednesday, April 13 when they travel to Central Missouri in a mid-week MIAA contest. Opening pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. from Warrensburg, Missouri.
