Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell at the hands of Washburn on Saturday afternoon 12-3. With the loss, SBU drops to 16-17 (11-12 MIAA) on the season.
Washburn jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings of play, and after a scoreless third, the Ichabods added two more as SBU trailed 7-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth,
Carter Sherban reached on an error to lead off the inning and moved over to third with one out.
Trevor Bowling was then hit by a pitch, and Sherban came home on an rbi double to left field by
Jeff Bouchard to put SBU on the board.
In the bottom of the fifth the Bearcats loaded the bases on singles from
Chance Wolfe,
Christian Binger, and
Caleb Sneed to lead off the inning. Sherban then hit a sacrifice fly to the right fielder, but the Bearcats were unable to push another run across the plate in the inning as SBU trailed 7-2 after five. In the sixth
Cody Massey led the inning off with a single to left field, and after a WU error, a sacrifice fly from Wolfe cut the deficit to five at 8-3. However, the Bearcats would eventually go on to lose 12-3.
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, April 9 when they host Washburn in the final game of the three-game series. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from Dodson Field.
