Bearcats Outhit Ichabods, but Fall 10-3

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team picked up 13 hits on the afternoon, but fell to Washburn 10-3 in the opening game of a three-game series. After the loss, SBU drops to 16-16 (12-12 MIAA) on the season.

The game started with two scoreless innings before Washburn plated two runs in the top of the third as SBU trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom half of the inning. With one out in the bottom of the third, Caleb Sneed drew a walk followed two batters later by a Hunter Hisky single through the left side. Trevor Bowling then hit an rbi single to center field to cut the deficit in half, as SBU trailed 2-1 after three.

After a scoreless fourth, Washburn used three hits and three hit batsman to extend their lead to 8-1. The Bearcats shut down Washburn for the next three innings, and scored another run in the bottom of the eighth. Jeff Bouchard led the inning off with a double to left center, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and came home on a sacrifice fly from Brock Randels as SBU trailed 8-2. The Ichabods responded with two runs in the ninth, as the Bearcats trailed 10-2 heading into the final half inning of play. With one out in the ninth, Hisky reach on a WU error, followed by a Bowling single to center field. Bouchard then doubled to left center, scoring Hisky, but the Bearcats would end up falling 10-3.

SBU will return to action on Friday, April 8 when they host Washburn. Opening pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
